It’s not often that you see work with true originality, not just the hyperbole of the modern Pop machine, or Indie blog of the moment announcing the next messiah;  Sometimes it’s much quieter, under the radar, and a lot more menacing.

A post about Embryoroom may seem incestuous, they have done video work for my music;  But this blog is my forum, and I am impressed by what I’ve seen.

I don’t presume the music I’m making is groundbreaking or revolutionary, I simply enjoy too much of what’s come before me to leave it all behind.  But when you see something that is seemingly void of reference, as if it was created in the vacuum of an active imagination…well that is something else entirely.

I’m familiar now with the visuals, since many of the aesthetics were incorporated into my own work, but it took time to wrap my head around it all.  Having seen a performance in a superb space, surrounded by 4 enormous video screens, it all fell into place.

Maybe I need to stop looking back so much, and imagine the future of music ?

SHORT Q & A with Embryoroom

DM:  Do you think your work is commercial ?  Why or why not ?

Let’s define our terms. If we mean commercial in the sense of having profit as a chief aim, then no. This is not to say it cannot be profitable, but the work is not an endeavor to make money for sake of making money. Aesthetic decisions must have priority over marketing.

DM: What is the potential future of Pop media ? (you can be as pessimistic or optimistic as you like)  and what would you like to see as the future of Media (music/Video/Art) ?

What constitutes POP in the post-broadcast paradigm is constantly changing.

We might see increasingly personalized content that is more immersive; 3D technology is really just beginning. Static cinema will give way to a dynamic theater going experience where the director acts as a conductor and actors are immersed in imaginary worlds in real time with increasingly abstract subject matter and imagery.

There you have it !

Introduction… Del Marquis

I’ve never kept a blog before. I don’t twitter, and I’m sh*te at keeping up my personal web pages; Myspace, Facebook, etc. Too much information, too much being shared and not enough mystery. If I truly knew the artists who made the music I loved, I would probably love it less. [...]

I’ve never kept a blog before. I don’t twitter, and I’m sh*te at keeping up my personal web pages; Myspace, Facebook, etc. Too much information, too much being shared and not enough mystery. If I truly knew the artists who made the music I loved, I would probably love it less. I’ve met some heroes in my short pop career, but mostly I prefer to know them by the songs they sing, and not by their up-close faces, offstage drama or everyday realness.

But here goes…

I have spent the past year cultivating a project that is very close to my heart, and for that reason it is impossible not to take things personally. The low blows are especially low and the highs, thrilling.

In Scissor Sisters, I can keep things at a distance, my offstage personality is a world away from my everyday one. Creating a stage personae was organic, the person onstage is still very much me, but someone who would otherwise be too bold in everyday life to fit in, you are allowed so much more liberties as a performer, and it is an amazing rush.

So now that I have to get people up to date on what I’ve been doing , solo-wise, it’s important for me to make the distinction between these two musical beings. My output as a solo artist is through an independent label set up by my friends and I (Embryoroom). There isn’t one element that isn’t handled personally to completion by our small group of three people; artwork, video, production, and to a degree management and promotion.

Why contribute more audio noise to an already saturated world ? Cause this project is goddamn important and needs to be heard, that’s why.

More soon.

After you guys chose Lovelle as the UK ambassador on the Pepsi-back Akon single “Oh Africa”, the time has finally come!

On Sunday (31st January), the single will be released, and we all hope it gets to number one!

The song, featuring Akon and Keri Hilson (pictured with Lovelle, right) is giving proceeds from the sales to helping underprivileged African youth. Akon’s Konfidence Foundation, (Konfidence.org), will be one of the main charities set to receive a portion of the proceeds.

Check out konfidence.org to download the track, and check back here next week for more information and videos!

Hey Pepsimaxcasters… It’s been a blinding few weeks indeed. We have had some truly brilliant gigs – Leeds on Monday was mental… we had the Sheffield Wednesday firm in and it went off!!

And the The London Forum last Thurs was totally insane!! It was packed, the crowd knew every single word to every song and  everyone was jumping about and going crazy- at one point I thought the balcony was going to come down! We then went on and partied till the small hours in Camden… I didn’t feel to clever in the morning though!

I also wanna say a big thank you to the Pepsi Max comp winners for coming down and saying  hello – top geezers! Anyway just thought you’d like a sneak peek at one of our soundchecks. This is me doing “The Drugs Don’t Work” by The Verve – one of my favourite bands. Liam, Andy and I like to take it in turns to choose a song to cover to keep sounchecks fun! Enjoy… TC.
